The Abia State House of Assembly has denounced the purported mistreatment of Kalu Mba Nwoke, the representative for Ohafia South, during the state’s most recent local government election.
On November 2, 2024, Nwoke was taken into custody for reportedly bringing several thugs into the Ohafia local government headquarters, according to Chukwudi Eke Mba, the chief press secretary to the deputy governor of Abia State.
Godwin Adiele, the representative for Ukwa West, moved a resolution on the House floor on Wednesday, denouncing the abuse of the legislator and claiming that Abia State Deputy Governor Ikechuckwu Emetu need to apologize to him.
Many members of the House backed his move.
When Nwoke questioned why the LGA secretariat was locked up during an election, he said that the deputy governor ordered him to be attacked and held for 24 hours.
He added that he objected to the lack of election results sheets.
Chukwudi Eke Mba, the Deputy Governor’s chief press secretary, insisted that the representative of Ohafia South was not kidnapped and that his boss was never responsible for the outspoken lawmaker’s incarceration.
