Gunmen reportedly executing the banned sit-at-home order caused chaos on Monday morning, causing tension among the communities in the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone.

It was reported that at least five people were killed in the attacks that took place in Abatete, Abagana, and Ukpo between 8 and 10 a.m.

Our correspondent was informed by a source that the most of the victims were men from the Anambra Vigilante services.

According to reports, the initial attack took place in Abatete town and targeted vigilantes who were associated with the area’s president-general (PG).

The barrage of gunshots killed three security personnel.

The PG was also said to have been critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The gunmen targeted the communities of Abagana and Ukpo in different events.

One member of the Vigilante Group and a motorcyclist were reported murdered at the Ukpo roundabout in the state’s Dunukofia Local Government Area.

People in the neighborhoods surrounding Anambra Central are terrified and in a frenzy.

Given how close the assaulted towns were to Awka, the state capital, a voice message that went viral on social media advised residents of Awka not to go outside.

According to one Abatete community member: “We are praying for the recovery of our PG. This senseless violence has left our community shaken.”

Another member of the Ukpo community stated on Facebook: “It was chaos. The attackers came out of nowhere, shooting indiscriminately. Shouting no Biafra, no freedom. We are still trying to process what happened.”

When contacted by the state’s police officials, SP, the spokeswoman, stated: “The details are still sketchy, but our operatives are currently at the scene. I will get back to you with facts as soon as I can.”
