Edozie Njoku, a prominent member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has declared his intention to abide by the ruling that acknowledges Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the party’s National Commander.
Victor Oye, Njoku, and Ezeokenwa were reportedly involved in legal proceedings regarding the party’s chairmanship.
Last Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja’s Justice James Omotosho demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, recognize Ezeokenwa as the legitimate APGA chairman.
Wednesday’s ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court.
The top court’s five-member panel, presided over by Justice Stephen Adah, unanimously ruled that Njoku was mistaken to pose as the national chairman of the APGA.
Nevertheless, Njoku stated he would follow the ruling even though it was not in his favor when speaking to reporters in Abuja on Thursday.
“Everyone who knows me knows I believe in the rule of law and hierarchy. In any establishment, there must be a hierarchy. The hierarchy of the judiciary in Nigeria is the Supreme Court.
“We, in Nigeria, must learn that when the Supreme Court speaks, no matter how or what you think, you must obey it.
“We must be a country of law and order. Things cannot just be turned to suit you because you are uncomfortable,” he said.
Recall that following an elective convention in Awka, Anambra state, in May 2023, Ezeokenwa was chosen as the APGA’s national chairman.
Njoku had argued that he became the national chairman of the APGA as a result of a convention that took place in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.
In July 2024, INEC acknowledged Njoku as the national chairman, citing a court decision as justification.
