Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, has criticized those who criticize Ali Ndume, his colleague and the senator for Borno South, for being vocal on national issues like the contentious tax reform bill.
Nigerians need people like Ndume, Kalu said in an interview with Arise News on Monday.
“We need senators like Ndume who will raise our conscience. I respect Senator Ndume very well.
“Those who tell Senator Ndume to shut up are not being kind to democracy, democracy is not about one voice but about multiple voices. It is the government being guided by the majority of the people and Ndume is one of them.
“He is a strong voice, the senate president didn’t shut him up”.
Remember how the northern MP and others have publicly demanded that the legislation be withdrawn since they don’t represent the interests of the region?
But the senator from Abia North praised the tax reform measure, saying it will bring back fiscal federalism.
He emphasized that before releasing the laws to Nigerians, the bill’s creators might have consulted the Forum of Governors, the Economic Council, and the Council of State.
