Shehu Sani, a former senator who served as the national assembly representative for Kaduna Central, has alluded to the reason behind the escalating tension at the Kano Emir’s palace.
As early as 6 a.m. on Friday, police personnel in high-tech gear surrounded the Emir of Kano’s palace, escalating the tension.
It was learned that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi’s intentions to name a district head for Bichi town may not be unrelated to the current state of affairs.
“There should be serious restraint in the application of force, might, and power over the Kano emirship tussle in the interest of peace,” he wrote in a post via X.
The Kano emirship has been the subject of controversy before.
The 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was reinstated in May after former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero was deposed by Governor Abba Yusuf while he was away. He was promptly transferred to the Kofar Kudu palace.
Court battles supporting and opposing the state government’s decision resulted from Bayero’s later return to the state and his settlement at the Nassarawa tiny palace.
