Abia’s 2025 Budget: Education, Health Sectors Get 35% Allocation

The Abia State House of Assembly has been presented with the 2025 Appropriations Bill of N750, 282, 200,000.00 by Abia State Governor Alex Otti for review and approval.

Presenting the budget to the House of Assembly, which is led by Emmanuel Emeruwa, the governor claimed that his administration had managed the 2024 budget with discipline and that it had been used to change the state in a number of areas.

While education and health received the largest portions of 20 percent and 15 percent, respectively, N611.7 billion, or 82 percent, of the planned 2025 Abia State budget will go to capital projects, while N138.6 billion, or 18 percent, will be allocated to recurring expenditures.

The governor of Abia stated that his administration will continue to reform health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and property and life security, among other areas. He also revealed that the 2025 budget was up around 30% from the 2024 budget.

According to him, N14.6 billion will be utilized to establish libraries and reading rooms throughout the state’s 184 wards, while N13 billion will be allocated in the 2025 budget for the development of agro-industrial processing zones in the three local government areas of Ukwa, Bende, and Umunnochi.

Additionally, N18.9 billion was set aside for social assistance.

Otti revealed that within the year, a number of state-owned agricultural assets that had been in private hands and had not been returned to the state government were retrieved.

The governor bemoaned the tragic death of brave security guards and other innocent civilians to thugs, while reaffirming that protecting people and property throughout the state remained his top concern.
