I Won’t Sack Civil Servants who Failed Promotion, Confirmation Examination, Says Governor Alex Otti

The Executive Governor of Abia State Dr. Alex Otti has assured Civil Servants who failed the recently held Promotion/Confirmation examination that his administration has no plan to sack them as a result of mass failure.

Speaking on Friday in Umuahia during the December edition of Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians held at the Government House Umuahia, governor Otti said it is a standard procedure that when you fail an examination, you prepare to re-sit for it and pass it the next time.

“If you sit for an examination and you probably didn’t prepare very well, they are greater chances that you will fail than you will pass”

“I have also gotten feedback from some of the people who took the exams to say that in the past everyone who took the exams will pass, but everyone cannot pass this time”

“The directive that they should go and sit for the exam once again is the right directive”

“But am not too sure that we are where we will ask anybody to leave because you didn’t pass, you may just be where you are until you Pass”the Governor Said.

Governor Otti said his administration has been doing so well for the state in all pillars of his administration, in the area of Road Infrastructure, the Governor said his administration will flag off the construction of some roads before the end of the road.

“We are just coming from Aba where we commissioned the Cemetery road phase two, Umule Road and Umuocham road which was done by direct labour and the job was perfectly delivered, Permit me to thank the Ministry of Works for putting the Engineers and workers in the Ministry to work, I have received messages that our engineers in the ministry of works are happy that they are being given the opportunity to practice their profession “

“Last week we commissioned Abak road in Aba, before then we commissioned Dozie way in Umuahia, we have done the dualiization of the road from Onuimo all the way to the Town, we have also flagged off the Umuopara road, work has started, a few more roads to be flagged off before the end of the year”

Speaking further, Governor Otti said the Abia Airport project will be flagged-off which he said the project it’s a Partnership project between the Federal Government and the Abia State Government.

“A few more days before the end of this year, we shall be flagging off the Abia Airport, I have seen people make comment without having sufficient information, The Airport Project is a Federal Government Project, what we have done is to provide land and make sure that the road to the airport is accessible. There is a difference between an Airport and the Airstrip, we appreciate the Federal Government for the consideration in agreeing that we can work together to achieve the airport”

“On Tuesday, we presented our Budget to the Abia State House of Assembly of a total of N750 Billion, that is a proposal until the House of Assembly passes,Some people have made comments that the size of the Budget is too high, but when you look at the budget with the inflation and the exchange rate, the difference will not be as high as pronounced”

“Everyone has aspirations and the aspiration is founded on logic, should you stop budgeting because you are not too sure of what will happen tomorrow, the answer is No”

On Healthcare, the Governor said his administration is targeting to complete 200 Health Centers in 100days.

“On our Healthcare, we have a target of 100 days 200 Health Centres to be delivered in 100days , and to be delivered accross the 184 Wards of the State”

“We are also making projects on our Medical Village project and am sure on the First quarter of next year, we will give you details on the location and when we will flag it off”

He said his administration has splitted the Ministry of Education into the Ministry of Tertiary Education and the Ministry of Basic Education which is being supervised by two Commissioners.

“On Tertiary Education we are working hard to bring Abia State University, College of Education Arochukwu and the Ogbonnaya Onu polytechnic into what it ought to be, we are implementing the white paper on Abia State University, the Combined Convocation of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic happened few days ago and I think for about three years, Convocation has not happened there”

“In our Basic Education, we have started the Process of increasing the number of Teachers particularly in the rural areas, we have put in place a discriminatory compensation package to encourage them to serve in those areas, in the next months we won’t have any school that is understaffed”

“In Agriculture, we are engaging to ensure that we are untangle some of the challenges, within the month a company called Nimposure visited and signed an MOU veto invest $120m in Palm Produce, the company is partnering with another company to give agriculture a boost” the Governor stated

“On a happy note, Abia State won a price at the UNISEF primary healthcare Leadership challenge, Abia State came First in the South East and we won a price of 400 Thousand dollars, this is not the first time, last year we came second and we believe by the next year, we will come first in the Country”

In the area of Security, the Governor assured Abians that his administration is working very hard to secure the state.

“We have decided to rejig the Security architecture and we are doing everything possible to ensure that our state is secured. I want everyone to relax because our Government will not rest until we fully secure the State”

“I want to encourage our people who indicated interest to come back to continue as we have made adequate arrangements for security”

“In the next few days, salaries will be paid and the 13th Month salaries will also be paid.

“Despite all the challenges, we have enjoyed relative peace and we will continue to enjoy peace in the State” He stated.
