In a fiery statement, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has accused Dr. Peter Odili of nepotism and political inconsistency, alleging that the former governor has turned the state into his “personal estate.”

Wike criticized Odili for sidelining his late brother’s son, who was recommended for a commissioner slot, and instead appointing his own daughter. “Someone who didn’t remember to stand for the son of his late elder brother, is that an elder statesman?” Wike questioned during a recent event.

He went further to highlight perceived instances of Odili’s influence in Rivers State governance. “His wife is a Chairman of Governing Council, his daughter is a commissioner, his other daughter is a judge, and he is the general overseer. Who has now turned Rivers State to his private estate?” Wike said, insinuating that Odili’s political reach could even extend to orchestrating the governor’s personal affairs.

Reflecting on their political history, Wike accused Odili of hypocrisy, recalling how Odili once praised his achievements as governor. “In 2007, after he left office, he couldn’t come near power in the state because Amaechi was the governor then. He was gone!” Wike lamented, adding that Odili’s recent criticisms were driven by “political sycophancy.”

The remarks have sparked discussions in Rivers State’s political circles, with many waiting to see if Dr. Odili will respond to the allegations.
