In 2022, President Bola Tinubu outsmarted his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, according to former presidential Special Adviser on Political Matters Babafemi Ojudu.

According to Ojudu, Buhari never backed Tinubu or his then-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries.

He emphasized that Tinubu chose the party’s ticket and ultimately won the presidency by outwitting Buhari in numerous ways.

Ojudu made this revelation on Monday night during an appearance on Edmund Obilo’s “State Affairs” program.

As stated by Ojudu: “I knew Osinbajo was going to lose the primary, I saw it coming.

“Because of the system we operated and still operating, I kept saying at our meeting that all of the efforts we are making like traveling around, convincing people, and addressing delegates is only 40 percent.

“60 percent of it lies in Buhari’s hands unless and until Buhari mobilizes people around him, the governors, his aides, we are going nowhere.

“I used to refer to Buhari as a one-man majority and he never mobilized his team towards Osinbajo and I think Tinubu outsmarted him in so many different ways.”

Many said that Buhari favored Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President at the time, above Osinbajo and Tinubu in the run-up to the 2023 presidential election.

However, the primary results revealed that Tinubu received 1,271 votes, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi received 316 votes to finish second, Osinbajo received 235 votes, and Lawan received 152 votes.
