There are hints that George Moghalu and John Nwosu, two Labour Party (LP) candidates for governor of Anambra State in 2025, might get together to align their interests before to the primaries.
Both of the candidates are from Nnewi town, which is in the state’s Nnewi North Local Government Area. They are vying for the Labour Party’s ticket in the November election.
At a news conference held at his home on Wednesday, Moghalu, the former managing director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority, or NIWA, revealed this.
Moghalu referred to Nwosu as his brother-in-law and stated that it was essential that they would meet to balance their interests in order to prevent resource waste and safeguard Nnewi interests.
He said: “He (Nwosu) is my brother and friend, in fact my in-law. Nothing is cast in iron and we have a good personal relationship. We also have our relations who are also involved in the politics of the town. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of us meeting and discussing, so that we don’t waste resources and time.
“We need to work together to actualize the Nnewi dream. It is not impossible to meet, politics is about human dynamics, so I have no problem with that, I will not rule that out, even the party constitution provides for such, so we can discuss to ensure that things work out well.
“What is important is that we want Labour Party to form government of the state, so we are working together about this.
“We will meet, certainly we will meet, there is still a lot of time. Yesterday we were together in Onitsha, and before the primary election, we may still meet and hold a conversation.”
Insisting that he has what it takes to succeed and put the state on the correct track, Moghalu stated that the fact that he has put himself up to succeed Governor Chukwuma Soludo is unquestionable.
