A petrol tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, has left at least five persons feared dead and caused extensive destruction to properties, including banks and residential buildings. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday along the Old Lagos-Asaba road when the tanker reportedly fell while the driver attempted to make a turn. The vehicle burst into flames, engulfing its surroundings and burning victims who were in its path.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that two banks—First Bank and Access Bank—were among the properties consumed by the inferno. Four houses, including an Anglican Church, and two vehicles were also destroyed. An eyewitness recounted the devastating scene: “The tanker fell near First Bank in Agbor as the driver tried to turn. The resulting explosion was horrifying. Firefighters are yet to arrive, and the fire is still raging as I speak.”
