Until the right thing is done, the Coalition of Northern Groups, or CNG, has stated that it will keep opposing the federal government’s tax reform legislation that are presently being considered by the National Assembly.

Aliyu Charanchi, the Coalition’s national coordinator, made this clear in Damaturu during a one-day town hall discussion on the proposed change that included student leaders, civil society organizations, and important stakeholders.

CNG’s National Coordinator said that the tax reform measure has a lot of ambiguities that need to be clarified, with the theme being “Tax Reform Bill: A Catalyst for Economic Growth or a Burden on the People?”

“The question we are asking is: What are the problems that the Nigerian government realizes, and why are the solutions to those problems for Nigerians only through this tax reform bill? Would this tax reform bill alleviate the sufferings Nigerians are going through today?” he queried.

Charanchi asserts that CNG is adamantly demanding that the tax reform plan be put on hold and that more Nigerians be consulted.

“Tell the National Assembly members that we Nigerians provided them with the chance to reach their current position. Nigerians will undoubtedly not think twice about withdrawing them from the 2027 elections if they don’t take any legal action to guarantee the suspension of the tax reform bill from the National Assembly or its removal,” he added.

Through the National Coordinator, CNG pledged to keep up the opposition to the law until the proper action was taken.
