The allegation that President Bola Tinubu gave opposition members N50 million has been refuted by Felix Morka.

When answering questions on Arise Television’s Prime Time program on Tuesday, Morka made this statement.

The allegation comes after Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), charged that Tinubu’s administration was undermining Nigeria’s democratic process by giving opposition politicians N50 million per.

Atiku stated this during a national summit on bolstering democracy that was held in Abuja on Monday and was organized by a number of civic organizations.

However, Morka, while responding to the allegation, challenged Atiku to name those who received the payment if he had any evidence that any money was paid to any member of the opposition.

He said: “Of course, it’s not true. Now let me say this, if Alhaji Abubakar had evidence that any money was paid to any citizen in the opposition, especially if those members who were paid are of the PDP stock, I would expect, you know, Alhaji Abubakar to name his own party officials who received those payments. And then, by naming them, we can begin to unravel who paid them, and why they were paid.

“But I can tell you categorically that the President is extremely busy governing Nigeria, also working on his mandate, and does not have the time to focus on the pettiness that Alhaji Abubakar is suggesting he may be engaged in. And nobody in my party, for that matter, is paying any money, whether 50 million naira or any sum of money, to anybody in the opposition. Why would we pay them?

“We are working on ourselves to be ready for any contest that is to come. So whatever money we have, we want to keep to, you know, apply democratically towards promoting our cause and persuading Nigerians to support our party, not to give it to anybody in the opposition. What are they going to do for us anyway, you know?

“So we have no interest in that. Alhaji Abubakar should be, I think, advised to quit this rumor-peddling that’s unbefitting of his standing as a former Vice President and as an elder statesman.”
