The meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun in Abuja.

The meeting is being presided over by Amb. Umar Damagum, the party’s Acting National Chairman.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary; Senator Ben Obi; Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the Board Secretary; Babangida Aliyu, the former governor of Niger State; and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the former governor of Osun State, are among those present.

The emergency meeting was called by the PDP BoT in order to address the party’s ongoing leadership issue.

After Senator Iyorchia Ayu was removed, Damagum took over as acting National Chairman.

Nonetheless, Damagum’s resignation is being demanded by a number of party members.

At the 98th National Executive Committee meeting on April 18, 2024, PDP leaders failed to reach a consensus on the party’s main concerns.

Among these was the North-Central region’s push to complete Ayu’s term in accordance with the party zoning scheme by producing a legitimate national chairman to succeed Damagum.

It was anticipated that the 99th NEC meeting of the party, which was set for August 15, 2024, will discuss unresolved concerns in order to resolve the party’s problems.

Nevertheless, the 99th NEC conference was ultimately postponed permanently after being first rescheduled for October 24, 2024, and then again for November 28, 2024.
