Desmond Ofei, head coach of the Black Satellites of Ghana, is glad that his team will not be playing against longtime rivals Nigeria in the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations group stage.
On Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters hosted the draw for the biennial competition.
Ghana are drawn in Group A with hosts Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Tanzania, and a yet-to-be-determined team from the UNIFFAC area.
The Flying Eagles are grouped alongside South Africa, Egypt, and Morocco, which is challenging.
In Togo last year, the Black Satellites were defeated 2-1 by Nigeria in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final.
“We’re happy that we’re not in Group B because that’s a very interesting group,” Ofei told Joy Prime Sports.
“I feel like we’re in a position where we can control the narrative of this tournament from our perspective.”
