With the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and Dangote Refinery starting a new pricing battle after both companies cut their fuel prices, petroleum dealers and marketers have warned that Nigerians should anticipate additional premium motor spirit price reductions.

This comes as NNPC published its new petrol pricing for Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and the rest of the country on Monday. The rates are N860 and N880 per liter, respectively.

According to reports, the new pump price of N880 per litre has been reflected in NNPCL retail stores located across from the company’s headquarters, in the Central Business District, and along the Kubwa expressway in Abuja.

Remember how Dangote Refinery reduced the price of gasoline to N880 per liter just six days ago at its partners’ fuel outlet, MRS filling station, and other filling stations in Abuja?

NNPCL and Dangote Refinery are engaged in a new gasoline pricing war as a result of the development.

Due to their price battle, Nigerians would now choose to purchase gasoline from NNPCL or Dangote retail locations.

Remember that Dangote gasoline has been offered at a lower price than NNPC since February 2025.

In response, Abubakar Maigadi, the president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, and Billy Gillis-Harry, the national president of the Petroleum Retailers Outlets Owners Association, said that Nigerians should anticipate further reductions in the price of gasoline due to the competition between the Dangote refinery and NNPCL.

In what he called an essential business matrix between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery, Nigerians are in a favorable position, according to Gillis-Harry.

He emphasized that the war has made Nigerians who have been suffering from the growing cost of living happy.

“The new price has been reflected on our portal.

“This price reduction will be a huge relief to many Nigerians struggling to make ends meet.

“The reduction in PMS prices is expected to positively impact Nigerians’ lives.

For the benefit of Nigerians and marketers, we are working with NNPCL to lower the price of gasoline as well,” he told reporters.

“What’s happening in the downstream oil and gas sector is the beauty of deregulation,” Maigandi remarked.

According to him, “It is not surprising because Dangote petrol is selling at that rate.

“This is what we have been telling the government to deregulate the sector. The price will start coming down. Investors have started coming.

“The reduction in petrol price means joy to Nigerians and marketers,” he told newsmen.
Recalls that the price war between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery started on September 15, 2024, when the latter kicked off the PMS rollout.
