Port Harcourt, March 18, 2025 – The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has issued a statement on behalf of the Assembly, expressing support for the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

In the official release, the Assembly acknowledged the President’s decision as being in the best interest of the country, despite it not being their preferred outcome. The statement attributed the state of emergency to the alleged misconduct of the Governor, accusing him of disobeying court rulings, obstructing the legislative arm, and failing to govern in accordance with the Constitution.

The Assembly urged the people of Rivers State to remain calm as the Sole Administrator appointed by the President takes over the affairs of the state. It assured full support to the Sole Administrator in the interest of peace and stability.

Expressing gratitude to the people for their support and prayers, the Speaker called on citizens to cooperate with the new leadership to ensure a smooth transition during this emergency period.

This development follows a series of political and legal conflicts in the state, leading to heightened tensions and federal intervention.
