Shehu Sani, a former federal senator, has advocated for a political solution to the Rivers conflict.
This comes after Rivers State was placed under a state of emergency on Tuesday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sani underlined the necessity of a political solution to the problem during an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday.
He emphasized the critical responsibilities that Governor Siminalayi Fubara and previous Governor Nyesom Wike played in bringing stability back.
“Political conflicts need political solutions, and whatever happens to Rivers State, you cannot remove the key instrumental factor of Wike. You cannot have peace without Wike and without Fubara. So both of them are needed within this window of six months to appease the situation if the issue is before the Federal Executive Council,” Sani stated.
Regardless of whether Wike is still a key player in the settlement, he asked President Tinubu to use his position of authority to bring peace back to the state. “The most important thing is that we all want peace in Rivers State, whether Wike is there or not,” he continued.
Concerns over stability and governance in the upcoming months are raised by the declaration of emergency, which represents a dramatic shift in Rivers State politics.
