Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, has announced that he will be going to the Court of Appeal to contest the Edo State tribunal’s decision to confirm Monday Okpebholo as governor.

This was said by Ighodalo in a statement shortly after the Wednesday ruling.

”I have, therefore, instructed my legal team to proceed to the Court of Appeal to challenge this decision, which we consider a huge travesty of justice.

”This is not about me or any single individual; it is about the very essence of democracy, the preservation of our collective right to freely determine our future, and the legacy we leave for generations unborn,” he said.

According to reports, Ighodalo’s appeal was rejected by a three-member panel headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi because it lacked validity and no qualified witnesses were provided to support the allegations of Electoral Act non-compliance.

In their pursuit of justice, the PDP candidate asked his followers and other party loyalists to maintain harmony and pursue the rule of law.

”As an avowed democrat, I respect the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, and I urge all of you, our dear good people of Edo State, to remain peaceful, calm and law-abiding in the aftermath of this Judgement.

”However, let it be clear: this is not the end of our journey, but the beginning of a greater struggle for justice, democracy, and the sanctity of the people’s mandate freely conferred on my running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie and I are on the platform of our great Party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,” he added.

He claims that the voyage has been propelled from the start by their overwhelming display of support, genuine love, and faith in their common goal of an Edo State that is affluent.

He continued by saying that for them, it has never been about achieving a personal goal but rather about their belief in establishing a clear path to prosperity for all Edo people while respecting the fundamental principles of justice, democracy, and popular choice.

Ighodalo emphasized that they are still steadfast, dedicated, and will not falter in their quest for justice and the truth.
