Before the Champions League next season, UEFA is probably going to implement a significant regulation modification.

In a redesigned system, a 36-team league phase was included this season.

Instead of ranking each side separately, it did so in the same group.

While the following 16 teams competed in the play-offs for a spot in the next round, the top eight clubs advanced directly to the round of 16.

According to the current regulations, the top eight clubs are assured of hosting the second leg of their final 16 games.

When it reaches the quarterfinals or semi-finals, though, that regulation is not applicable.

The fact that Arsenal will host the second leg of their match against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu has also drawn some criticism.

Madrid placed eleventh in the league standings, while the Gunners came in third.

However, the Daily Mail claims that UEFA will discuss whether to alter that for the upcoming season.

According to reports, there is a “growing belief” that clubs that excelled in the league round should not be compensated with just second legs for the final 16 games.
