In light of the recent rise in insecurity around the nation, Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona kakanfo of Yoruba land, has urged the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, with not continuing to ignore Benue, Plateau, and Oyo states.

Adams said this while giving the keynote speech at the 2025 Eledumare Festival’s grand finale in Lagos.

The monarch denounced the actions of armed herders, who are thought to be responsible for the murders and kidnappings in Plateau, Benue, and Ondo states, specifically addressing the humanitarian crises and insecurity problems that Nigerians face in these three areas.

He claims that the crisis deters international investors and creates a sense of uncertainty.

He urged the federal government to take quick action: “We cannot because of the political benefits of the Federal Government, continue to ignore what would be of immense benefit to the rest of the country.

“These insecurity issues go a long way to affect food security, given the important role Benue, Plateau and Ondo states play in the food production cycle of the nation. The crisis also gives a sense of instability and discourages foreign investors.

“The government at the centre cannot continue to turn a blind eye to these necessary demands. The time to act is now. We must act decisively in the interest of our people.”

According to reports, Benue, Plateau, and Ondo states have seen an increase in attacks and homicides in recent weeks.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia declared on Tuesday that 598 persons have died in various towns inside the state.

The National Security Adviser, or NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, led a high-level condolence visit during which Alia spoke.

Attacks in the state’s Bokkos and Bassa LGAs in Plateau resulted in the deaths of more than 100 persons and the destruction of property.

Rev. Polycarp Lubo, the Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, or CAN, and other Christian leaders demonstrated in the state’s streets on Monday against attacks that have killed more than 100 people in the past two weeks.

More than 20 farmers were killed in four communities in the state’s Akure North Local Government Area by gunmen in Ondo who were thought to be herdsmen.
