The Anambra State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Mr John C. Nwosu, has stated that the urgent drive behind ongoing political realignments and coalition talks is to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of bad governance.
Nwosu, who recently defected from the Labour Party to the ADC and secured the party’s ticket for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, said Nigeria’s deteriorating governance under the All Progressives Congress APC necessitates a united front by opposition forces.
Speaking with journalists in Awka on Wednesday, Nwosu said, “Rescuing Nigeria is now a compelling imperative. Given the level of state capture and poor governance we are witnessing, it is in the common and national interest to arrest the drift.”
He emphasized that his decision to join the ADC was guided by principle and a desire to associate with a platform that aligns with his values and integrity. “I have moved to ADC. We have values and choices. You need to be able to defend the platform from where you operate. Where there are obvious conflicts to conscience and integrity, you excuse yourself or risk being party to the wrongdoings. That was why I left APC. ADC presented a credible alternative,” he said.
Addressing speculations about a possible political coalition with the ADC as a focal point, Nwosu said that while the individuals or parties involved are important, what matters most is the urgency of the mission to reposition the country.
“Coalition is exactly what it says – a gathering of like minds or people or platforms with a similar or common interest,” he explained.
“However, personalities and candidates can drive or influence a coalition. The common interest now is to salvage the sinking ship called Nigeria.”
Nwosu’s remarks come amid mounting concerns over Nigeria’s governance trajectory and increasing calls for a credible political alternative capable of challenging the dominance of the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections.
