Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has declared that he will not participate in any Peoples Democratic Party PDP meetings until the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other individuals he described as “impostors” are removed from the party.
Lamido’s absence was noted during the PDP National Executive Committee NEC meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja, where leaders gathered to deliberate on the current challenges confronting the opposition party.
Speaking to journalists on the same day, Lamido accused Wike of undermining the stability and unity of the PDP. He stated, “Wike is a disaster and a product of the PDP, the party that made him important. But now, he aims to ruin it.”
He continued, “I refuse to attend PDP meetings when they have fake members there. I am still a loyal member, but I will not dignify this nonsense.”
Lamido strongly criticized the recent sealing of the PDP National Secretariat by the Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA, attributing the action to Wike’s influence.
“Shutting down the PDP secretariat, the very institution that aided your political career, is un-African, un-Nigerian, and a huge abuse of power,” he said.
He also questioned Wike’s moral and political foundations, asserting that “Wike’s mindset is flawed; he lacks the cultural and moral foundation that our political tradition requires.”
Turning his criticism to the party’s leadership, Lamido rebuked the PDP National Working Committee NWC for what he described as inaction in disciplining members engaged in anti-party conduct.
“What is the NWC afraid of exactly?” he asked.
“Why hasn’t Wike been kicked out? Why is former Governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, still holding a position in the Board of Trustees after openly endorsing Tinubu? These are fundamental breaches. If this party is to survive, it must cleanse itself.”
Despite his criticism of Wike, Lamido commended President Bola Tinubu for issuing a 14-day ultimatum for the payment of outstanding ground rents in the FCT. He alleged that Wike ordered the closure of the PDP headquarters as a strategy to curry favor with the President.
“Ironically, the man Wike is trying to impress was the one who called him to order. That tells you everything,” Lamido stated.
“Even Tinubu is beginning to see that Wike is unreliable, lacking tradition and pedigree. And I assure you, he will soon abandon him too.”
He also warned against what he described as a growing threat of Nigeria turning into a one-party state, calling it “state-sponsored sabotage.”
The PDP has continued to grapple with internal strife since the 2022 general elections, with ongoing calls for reform and disciplinary action against members accused of undermining the party’s unity.
