Tech entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk has publicly acknowledged that some of his recent social media remarks targeting United States President Donald Trump were excessive, marking a notable shift in tone following days of escalating tension between the two former allies.

Taking to X, the social media platform he owns, Musk on Wednesday wrote, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”

The fallout stems from Musk’s abrupt resignation as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a controversial role he held under the Trump administration. His departure sparked a war of words, with Musk openly criticizing Trump’s proposed “Big Beautiful Bill,” which he claimed would undo key efficiency reforms introduced during his tenure.

As tensions grew, Musk published a series of provocative posts on X, expressing support for impeachment proceedings and accusing the president of ingratitude. He also made references to unverified allegations tying Trump to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and warned that Trump’s proposed tariff policies could trigger a national recession.

Most of these contentious posts have since been deleted.

In response, President Trump brushed aside talk of reconciliation, stating, “He was disrespectful to the office of the president. I haven’t really thought about it actually. I would imagine he wants to speak to me. I would think so, if I were him, I’d want to speak to me. And maybe he already called… ask him whether or not he’s already called.” Trump, however, indicated he would not oppose a conversation with Musk.

Musk’s softer tone appears to follow public unrest in Los Angeles, where violent protests erupted after a federal immigration raid. The billionaire has since shown renewed alignment with the Trump administration’s response, including reposting a statement from Vice President JD Vance that praised the president’s decisive actions, along with American flag emojis to signal support.

He also shared a screenshot from Trump’s Truth Social platform, where the president demanded an apology from California leaders for the unrest.

Commenting on the rift, Vice President Vance stated during a media interview, “The President is a little frustrated but he’s actually been restrained because he doesn’t want to be in some blood feud with Elon Musk. I think if Elon chills out a little bit everything will be fine.”

Musk simply responded with a short reply: “cool.”

As of press time, no direct conversation between the two has been confirmed. While the future of their relationship remains uncertain, insiders suggest that a reconciliation could still occur—but on Trump’s terms.
