As part of the 2025 Democracy Day activities, a wave of peaceful protest swept through the streets of Lagos on Wednesday, with citizens expressing frustration over the economic hardship caused by policies of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

The demonstrators, who converged under the Ikeja Bridge, carried placards bearing messages such as *“Reverse Electricity Tariff Hike”* and *“No one deserves a death sentence for protesting against hunger”*, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction with recent economic measures.

Despite the heavy presence of security operatives, the protesters conducted themselves peacefully, calling on the Federal Government to reconsider key economic decisions that have led to rising inflation, increased electricity tariffs, and general hardship for ordinary Nigerians.

Speaking on the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, assured the public that the situation was under control and that there was no threat to public safety.

*“Adequate security on ground for celebrants and protesters alike. No cause for alarm. Your safety and security remain our priority,”* he said.

The protest comes amid growing discontent across the country as Nigerians mark Democracy Day, with many questioning the state of democratic governance and the government’s responsiveness to the plight of the people.
