IGP Arrives Benue to Investigate Deadly Herdsmen Attack

Following the tragic incident in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where nearly 250 persons were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has arrived in the state.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed his visit in a brief statement shared via its official Facebook page on Monday.

According to the post, the IGP has “ordered for additional deployment of tactical teams” to address the escalating security situation.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen were said to have launched a violent attack on the community located near Makurdi, the state capital, setting homes ablaze and burning several residents alive.

In the wake of the massacre, hundreds of youths took to the streets of Makurdi on Sunday in protest, seeking to draw global attention to the persistent and deadly attacks plaguing communities across Benue State.
