The family of 17-year-old Divine Odide has cried out for justice following the tragic and suspicious death of their son at the swimming pool of Merryhome Hotels, located on Chief Ubani Street, Off 7Up Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State.
According to reports, Divine had gone to the hotel on June 10, 2025, to swim but unfortunately drowned during the outing.
Addressing journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, the heartbroken father, Mr. Orji Odide, appealed to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, to intervene in the matter. He accused the hotel management of allegedly attempting to suppress the incident and avoid full accountability.
Mr. Odide confirmed that the family initially reported the incident at Glass Police Station, 7Up, Aba, and the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia for thorough investigation.
The family is demanding a full, transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Divine’s death and is urging relevant authorities to ensure that justice prevails.
