The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed that its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for June 30, 2025, will go ahead as scheduled, dismissing any claims of cancellation as invalid.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, the party strongly criticized the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, for unilaterally attempting to cancel the meeting and reinstate Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary. Wabara described these actions as unconstitutional and inconsistent with the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

Wabara emphasized that NEC is the highest decision-making organ of the PDP, next only to the National Convention. Citing Section 31 (3) of the party’s constitution, he stated that the decision taken at the party’s 99th NEC meeting on May 27, 2025, to convene the 100th NEC meeting on June 30, remains binding and cannot be reversed by any individual, including the Acting National Chairman.

On the issue of the party’s National Secretary, Wabara said the National Working Committee (NWC) had validly appointed Deputy National Secretary Arc. Setonji Koshoedo as the Acting National Secretary, and that Damagum’s attempt to override that decision was a gross abuse of office.

Key points from the statement include:

The 100th NEC meeting will proceed as scheduled on June 30, 2025.

Damagum’s pronouncements regarding the cancellation of the NEC meeting and Anyanwu’s reinstatement are null and void.

The BoT reaffirms its constitutional responsibility to safeguard the party from “acts of impunity, unilateralism, and disregard for procedure.”

Members are advised to respect the supremacy of the PDP Constitution and reject actions that could destabilize the party.

Wabara concluded that no personal interest should override the institutional integrity of the PDP, and the BoT remains committed to defending due process and party democracy.
