Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has declared his full support for the position of the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BOT), and the South East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the ongoing crisis within the party.
Governor Mbah also reaffirmed his endorsement of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, expressing deep concern over the internal wrangling within the PDP, which he described as an “endless circus.”
Speaking to journalists on Sunday after a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Enugu with key PDP figures including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, PDP BOT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, and South East Zonal Chairman Chief Ali Odefa, Mbah made clear that the South East ZEC’s stance on the issue of the National Secretary must be respected.
“For the record, just as I stated during my interactive session with Fellows and Members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Enugu at the weekend, while I am still a member of the PDP, the South East – and that includes me – reserves the right to review our continued membership of the party if the party is unwilling to put its house in order,” he said.
He noted that during the last South East Zonal meeting held in Enugu, the caucus resolved that the party must respect the region’s position on the National Secretaryship or risk a reassessment of its relationship with the zone.
“During that meeting, the caucus noted that the party should not disregard the zone’s stand regarding the National Secretary position. To all intents and purposes, this has obviously not been the case. So, there is no doubt as to where I stand on the matter.
“The position of the South East with respect to the National Secretaryship of the party as issued in that communique is sacrosanct,” Mbah affirmed.
Also present at the meeting were several high-ranking PDP leaders, including former National Chairman and BOT member Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Senator Sam Egwu, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Senator Ben Obi, and Hon. Udeh-Okoye.
