Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and other prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders are currently engaged in a closed-door meeting as part of high-level consultations over the formation of a new political platform for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, which is reportedly being chaired by David Mark, brings together several influential political figures, including former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, and ex-governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi).
Sources close to the gathering indicate that the central agenda is to deliberate on the future of the PDP in relation to the emerging opposition coalition, particularly whether to remain within the party structure or fully align with the broader alliance being proposed ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
This meeting comes amid increasing momentum for a realignment of political forces across Nigeria’s opposition bloc, with growing speculation about a mega-coalition that could bring together figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and other high-profile politicians.
The deliberations are expected to influence the configuration of opposition strategy in the lead-up to 2027, as the coalition seeks to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated re-election bid.
