The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has dethroned six traditional chiefs for attending the flag-off of the Labour Party’s campaign in Apapa without obtaining his permission.

The decision was announced on Monday during a palace meeting convened by the monarch, where he accused the affected chiefs of breaching palace protocol and impersonating him at the political event.

In a statement issued by the palace, Oba Oyegbemi said the chiefs’ actions were carried out without consultation or approval, and undermined the traditional leadership structure of the kingdom.

The chiefs removed from their positions are:

* Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira)

* Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro)

* Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro)

* Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere)

* Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere)

* Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko)

The Ojora emphasized that the decision was necessary to preserve order and discipline within the traditional institution. He reiterated that impersonation and unsanctioned political involvement by palace titleholders would not be tolerated.

The development comes ahead of the Lagos State local government elections, as traditional authorities continue to play sensitive roles in the political dynamics of the state.
