The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and other notable figures left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after failing in their attempts to control the party’s leadership.

Wike made this known during a media chat with journalists on Thursday.

He alleged that David Mark had aspired to become the PDP National Chairman but was denied the position, which prompted his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Wike called on Nigerians to examine the motive behind the recent political coalition, describing it as a gathering of individuals dissatisfied with their loss of political relevance.

“Nigerians need to be careful of these group of Nigerians who are angry because they left power,” Wike said.

“Nigerians know everybody. For how long would you continue to deceive them? Who would want to give listening to these kind of people?”

He further stated that the opposition had significantly weakened its own chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The opposition has decimated themselves,” he added.

This development comes after David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, and other former PDP members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress as a political coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
