The newly formed opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reiterated its commitment to pursuing political change through democratic processes, emphasizing that its objective is to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) via the ballot box.
This position was made clear in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
The clarification came in response to a claim made by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who had suggested that opposition elements were plotting to destabilise the current administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to the allegation, Abdullahi stated, “We are not soldiers, we are politicians. We don’t have bullets; we only have the ballots.”
He further asserted that the ADC has no intention of undermining Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that the party is fully committed to peaceful political engagement and democratic ideals.
According to Abdullahi, “The health of Nigeria’s democracy depends on a free, open, and competitive political environment.” He added that the ADC will remain focused on building a better Nigeria by offering credible alternatives through legitimate political participation.
