PFormer Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has explained his decision to support the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that it is driven by the need to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

Lamido made this known while addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during an empowerment programme held at the party’s headquarters in Dutse.

According to the elder statesman, his alignment with the ADC, under the leadership of Senator David Mark, is a strategic move aimed at uniting Nigerians to confront what he described as the erosion of democratic values and suppression of opposition under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

“Our coming together under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark is for the unity and progress of the country, not for selfish interest,” Lamido said.

“Any patriotic Nigerian who has Nigeria at heart must come together to give his contribution to unseat the present administration in order to save the country and Nigerians from the difficult situation.”

He added that the objective is not only political, but national in nature. “Our duty now is to advise and guide for the betterment of the country and brighter future of Nigeria.”

Lamido also took the opportunity to commend PDP lawmakers from Jigawa State, acknowledging their efforts in upholding the party’s values and delivering on their mandates.

Meanwhile, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, who represents Jigawa South-West Senatorial District, disclosed that over 3,000 constituents have benefitted from the empowerment programme, describing it as a step towards improving livelihoods across the state.
