Buba Galadima, a former close associate of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has said he has forgiven the ex-leader for all past grievances.
Galadima, a key figure in the political coalition that led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), played a prominent role in Buhari’s successful presidential campaign in 2015. At the time, he was also the National Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), a party founded by Buhari.
However, the relationship between the two eventually deteriorated, with Galadima becoming one of the most vocal critics of Buhari’s administration. In past interviews, he openly denounced both the APC and certain opposition figures who, in his words, were “turning Buhari’s home into a Mecca.” He referred to them as “useless people who can’t differentiate between their left and right,” asserting that Buhari had become irrelevant in Nigeria’s political landscape and should retire quietly.
Galadima, who said he was the fourth person to sign the registration form that led to the creation of the APC, later described Buhari as “the greatest fraud to have happened to Nigeria,” claiming that the former President managed to conceal his true intentions for 15 years.
Following Buhari’s death in London on Sunday, where he was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness, Galadima spoke in Hausa, stating, “I forgive Buhari for everything he has done to me in life.”
Buhari is scheduled to be buried on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
A Nigerian government delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London to accompany the late President’s remains back to the country.
