Former presidential political adviser, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has dropped a bombshell, declaring that both President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari fought to become Nigeria’s leaders only to satisfy personal ambitions, not to serve the people.

Baba-Ahmed, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, claimed Buhari never sought power to run the country, but simply to wear the crown as president.

“I haven’t joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition. I have a party. I’m a member of the PRP. I was the chairman of APC in my state for three years, including when we transitioned from CPC into the coalition with Tinubu’s party,” he said.

“About six months into Buhari’s presidency, I resigned my membership because I could see then that Buhari didn’t become president to run the country. He just wanted to become a president. I left.”

The elder statesman further accused President Tinubu of walking the same selfish path, saying both men reduced their long political struggles to a personal prize hunt.

“I think there are some similarities between Tinubu and Buhari. They both wanted to become president for personal reasons more than anything else. They laboured in politics for so long that it became about them, and that is the wrong reason to seek power.

“You want power so that you can govern people and improve things. It must never be about you,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed’s remarks are already stirring anger and debate, as critics question if Nigeria’s leaders ever truly put the nation first.
