Abuja, July 24, 2025 — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its unity and readiness to reclaim political leadership as it concluded its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today, Thursday, July 24, 2025.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the NEC declared that all internal disputes and disagreements within the party have been amicably resolved, showcasing what it described as the PDP’s enduring culture of dialogue, mutual understanding, and patriotic commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
As part of its resolutions, the NEC approved the timetable for its 2025 Elective National Convention, which will take place from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, have been mandated to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the convention plans in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.
To ensure a transparent and credible process, the NEC also approved the membership of the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee.
Reiterating its stance as Nigeria’s foremost opposition party, the NEC directed the National Working Committee to commence legal action to reclaim the seats of PDP lawmakers who have defected to other parties, citing constitutional provisions that render such defections invalid.
The NEC also expressed concern over reports of some members participating in the activities of other political parties and urged them to return to the fold or face disciplinary measures. It assured aggrieved members that steps have been taken to address their concerns.
Looking ahead to 2027, the PDP emphasized its commitment to democratic values and its readiness to lead a coalition of Nigerians determined to end what it described as the “catastrophic misrule” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The next NEC meeting has been scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
