Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has assured of the commitment of his administration to provide quality education across all levels to children in educational institutions in the state.
Vice Admiral Ibas gave the assurance when he spoke at the 35th Convocation Ceremony and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the University of Port Harcourt at the Chief Nyesom Wike Convocation Arena, Choba, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The Rivers state Administrator, as part of the event, formally inaugurated the Convocation Arena, started by the administration of former Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and completed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
Vice Admiral Ibas said the ongoing infrastructural development and increase funding for the state-owned universities and sister institutions will be sustained.
This will empower them to serve as hubs of academic excellence and hope for the future and ensure that no child is left behind or denied the opportunity for academic growth.
Vice Admiral Ibas who described the University’s 50th Anniversary as “historic,” lauded UNIPORT’s enduring legacy of academic distinction, research innovation, and societal impact.
The Administrator encouraged the university community to build upon the foundation already laid with a renewed commitment to enhancing its global relevance.
Vice Admiral Ibas congratulated the graduands on their achievements and urged them to translate their academic knowledge into practical solutions for real-world challenges. He charged them to become positive change agents in society.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, expressed the institution’s pride in reaching a milestone of 50 years of academic excellence and national service since its establishment in 1975.
At this 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony, UniPort conferred a total of 13,861 degrees, which include 9,788 Bachelor’s degrees, 2,131 Master’s degrees, 208 Postgraduate Diplomas, and 934 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
