Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign and a prominent ally of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has raised concerns over the potential impact of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the future of the PDP.

In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Sowunmi likened the rising strength of the opposition coalition, now adopted by the ADC, to a looming “second stroke” that could prove fatal for the PDP.

He recalled how the party managed to withstand the internal revolt led by the G-5 governors during the 2023 general elections—a crisis he described as the “first stroke.” The G-5, led by then Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, actively opposed Atiku’s presidential bid. While Wike and other members supported APC candidate Bola Tinubu, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom threw his weight behind Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

With the latest political realignments and the ADC’s growing role as a rallying platform for opposition forces, Sowunmi questioned the PDP’s preparedness and resilience.

“PDP seems to have survived the first stroke caused by G-5,” Sowunmi posted. “Let us hope it can survive the second stroke caused by ADC. To pretend not to see their efforts is madness. @OfficialPDPNig, there is more to energizing a party than what the present handlers are doing.”

The remarks come as PDP faces mounting pressure to reform and unite ahead of the 2027 elections, especially amid talks of possible defections and realignments among leading opposition figures.
