Professor Jerry Gana, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that Peter Obi stands a strong chance of winning the 2027 presidential election if he returns to the PDP, asserting that he would defeat any candidate from the North.
Gana made this claim during an interview on Arise TV’s *Prime Time* programme on Wednesday night, amidst growing speculation about Obi’s political future and the possibility of his return to the PDP.
The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election has recently participated in several meetings with leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling discussions about his next political move.
However, Gana believes that Obi’s most viable path to the presidency lies within the PDP.
“I’m a researcher, and I research opinions. In the northern states, Peter Obi under the PDP will defeat any candidate, because our people are very fair-minded,” he said.
He also emphasized the principle of rotational leadership, suggesting that a Northern presidency could be revisited after Obi’s potential term.
“In 2031, it will be the turn of the North. Our people are very fair and we are building a nation,” Gana added.
Obi, who was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in 2019 before defecting to the Labour Party in 2022, has yet to confirm his next political move ahead of the 2027 elections. Nonetheless, his popularity remains a critical factor in ongoing realignment efforts within Nigeria’s opposition bloc.
