Authorities at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, have arrested a suspected cult leader, Favour Nosaghare, along with four other students, for alleged involvement in cult-related activities on campus.

The arrests were carried out on July 28 following a tip-off from the university’s security unit, which alerted authorities that Nosaghare—who had previously been suspended for alleged cultism—had returned to the institution around 3:20 p.m. accompanied by individuals suspected to be cult members.

Security operatives responded swiftly and apprehended four additional suspects identified as Emmanuel Omogiyo, Osaigie Gerald, Obiorah Chukwudi, and Esther Chukwuma. All of them are enrolled students of the university.

The group is alleged to be affiliated with the Black Axe confraternity, also known as Aye, a banned cult group linked to violent activities in various academic institutions across Nigeria.

During the operation, authorities recovered several illegal substances and paraphernalia, including wraps of Indian hemp, a pack of Rizla rolling papers, and a metal grinder.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that Nosaghare admitted to the offence, further intensifying investigations into the suspected cult network within the institution.

University authorities and law enforcement agencies are continuing efforts to ensure campus safety and curb cult-related activities.
