A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his renewed commitment to serve only one term if elected President in 2027.

Igbokwe described Obi’s position as unrealistic and indicative of desperation, asserting that those advocating for a single-term presidency lack a full understanding of the complexities of Nigerian governance.

Taking to his official handle on X, Igbokwe wrote: “Desperation everywhere. Those who do not know Nigeria very well and those who do not know what leadership is all about are desperately asking for a single term in office as President.”

He further dismissed the notion of a one-term presidency in Nigeria as simplistic, adding: “Let us put our thinking caps. To be President of Nigeria is not moi moi.”

Obi had, over the weekend, reiterated his intention to govern for only one term if elected President, citing his belief in effective and time-bound leadership. His statement has since drawn reactions across political lines.
