Human rights activist and political figure, Omoyele Sowore, on Wednesday arrived at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja with a travel bag containing personal essentials, in response to a summons issued by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit.

The invitation, dated August 5, was based on a petition alleging forgery and criminal defamation. The police had requested Sowore’s appearance for questioning over the claims.

In advance of his visit, Sowore had pledged to honour the invitation “with a full house”, calling on “revolutionary comrades, citizens of conscience, voices of resistance” to accompany him to the Force Headquarters.

At approximately 12:16 p.m., Sowore arrived at the facility in the company of his legal representatives, A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar. A group of supporters also accompanied him, chanting anti-government and anti-Kayode Egbetokun slogans.

Notably, the activist brought along a packed travel bag containing toothpaste, a toothbrush, soap, clothing, books, and other personal items, a symbolic move signaling his readiness for possible detention.
