The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against engaging in multiple registrations ahead of the forthcoming Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.
Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Plateau State, issued the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting on the resumption of CVR across the country.
Sadiq stated that multiple registrations would attract serious consequences, including the complete removal of offenders from the voter register.
“Voter registration is not only a fundamental right, but also a duty of every eligible citizen of Nigeria.
“No individual can vote in an election unless they are duly registered.
“We urge all Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 and above and are not yet registered to seize this opportunity and get their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.
“The commission will not accept multiple registration as any attempt to get involved in such an act may lead to such registrants being completely listed on the register,” he said.
He announced that the CVR would commence on August 18, beginning with online registration.
The REC urged residents of Plateau who have previously registered to take advantage of the CVR exercise to collect their PVCs.
“Online registration can take place anywhere and at any time. The website to visit is http://www.crv.inecnigeria.org.
“The exercise is basically for new voters that have attained the age of 18 and above, collection or transfer of PVC and replacement, lost or damaged PVC,” he explained.
Sadiq added that INEC had put measures in place to ensure that non-Nigerians do not participate in the CVR exercise.
He appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to sensitise eligible residents to actively participate in the process.
