The Police Service Commission (PSC) has held a strategic meeting with representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to finalise plans for a more transparent and credible 2025 police recruitment exercise.

In a statement, Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, confirmed that the Commission will be recruiting Cadet ASPs and Constables. The meeting was themed “Collaborative approach for a transparent and equitable Police Recruitment Process.”

Addressing participants, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), said the Commission would work closely with state governments to ensure an equitable recruitment process. He urged states to protect their quotas and prevent the hijacking of the exercise.

Argungu stressed that the Commission had resolved to eliminate connivance and block any trading or purchase of recruitment slots, emphasising that merit and equity would not be compromised.

“We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread,” he said.

He also called for constructive and impactful partnerships with state governments to curb corruption during the process.

Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), former Supreme Court Justice and Commissioner representing the judiciary, noted that the Commission was established to uphold equity and fairness in police recruitment and operations.

“We will rely on you to confirm that those to be recruited are from your states,” he said.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Commissioner representing the police in the PSC, assured that the new management is committed to reinventing a recruitment process that will select the best Nigerian youths for the Nigeria Police Force.
