The Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has distanced itself from recent viral social media reports alleging immoral sexual acts involving a former Director and two of his former staff members.

In a statement issued by its Head of Media and Public Relations, Iyke Onuegbu, the Commission stressed that it does not condone immoral behaviour in any form. It clarified that the alleged incidents, which were private in nature, occurred long before the present management came on board, and that the former Director in question had retired from service.

ASOPADEC noted that it cannot be held responsible for the private affairs of individuals outside office hours, especially after they have left the service. The Commission further disclosed that upon the inception of the current administration, decisive steps were taken to clean up the system and instil a zero-tolerance culture for misconduct or any act capable of tarnishing its image.

While confirming that it is conducting an internal review of the matter, the Commission urged the public to consider the context and timing of the reports and ensure that the reputation and operations of the present administration are not unfairly impacted by past events.

It emphasised that the name of ASOPADEC should not be linked to the personal misconduct of any past officer, particularly when such actions bear no connection to the Commission’s current operations. The statement reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and service delivery.
