Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has disclosed that he asked his players to vote for the team’s captain this week, with the squad unanimously backing current skipper Martin Odegaard to continue in the role.

Arteta’s revelation comes days after former Arsenal captain Tony Adams suggested the armband should be handed to midfielder Declan Rice, claiming he would be a better leader for the current squad.

However, speaking to reporters on Friday, Arteta said the players’ choice was decisive.

“My opinion is clear, and it is the same as all the staff and the players.

“I asked them to vote [for] the captain yesterday and by a mile, by a mile, they all chose the same person, Martin Odegaard.

“Which is the most clear sign you can have of how the squad feel we can improve,” he stated.
