The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it will introduce reciprocal measures for United States citizens applying for Nigerian visas, following the new U.S. visa regulations.
The U.S. recently introduced stricter requirements demanding Nigerian applicants disclose their social media activity from the past five years. Failure to comply could result in visa denial or even a lifetime entry ban.
Reacting, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said:
- Nigeria will adopt the same rules for Americans seeking Nigerian visas.
- An inter-agency meeting will be held involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to craft a comprehensive response.
- The move is aimed at ensuring fairness and reciprocity in international relations.
Ebienfa emphasized that “when things of this nature happen, the best we can do is reciprocal action.”
