The New Democratic Alliance (NDA), a progressive political platform of visionary and development-oriented stakeholders in Ukwa East Local Government Area, has passed a vote of confidence on the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, over what it described as his exceptional governance style.
In a communiqué issued after wide consultations and deliberations, the group hailed the Governor for his conscious efforts at inclusive governance, as reflected in key appointments that cut across competence, equity, and capacity. Among the appointments acknowledged were Prince Okey Kanu as Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ngozi Nwagbara as Commissioner in the Abia State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Akara Emmanuel Ugochukwu and Mrs. Nnenna Emuchey into the Abia State Board of Medicines and Commodities Management Agency, Mrs. Matilda Anyamele as Special Assistant on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, and Barr. Idris Wabara into the Abia State University Governing Board.
The Alliance also expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his promises towards addressing infrastructural and socioeconomic needs of Ukwa East, describing them as a source of renewed hope for the people. The group further commended Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe for his excellent representation of the South East at the National Assembly, pledging unreserved support to both leaders in their efforts to build a better Abia.
While throwing its weight behind the administration, the NDA cautioned the Governor against individuals it described as “disguised opposition” parading as stakeholders in Ukwa East. According to the group, such elements were complicit in the destruction of democratic values in past elections and should not be allowed to infiltrate the current administration under false pretenses.
The group also used the occasion to call on the Governor to consider signature projects that would transform Ukwa East and boost economic activities in the area. These include the rehabilitation of Ohanku and Obohia Roads, restoration and expansion of electricity supply, and the development of the Azumini Blue River Project.
The communiqué, jointly signed by the Coordinator, Mr. Ugochukwu Wajini, and the Secretary, Mr. Williams Dinne, reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that advance the collective good of Ukwa East and Abia State at large.
