Dominic Alancha, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that a potential alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi could threaten the ruling party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Alancha noted that if Atiku and Obi, who polled a combined 12 million votes in the 2023 presidential election, agree on a joint ticket, they could significantly reduce APC’s support base.

He pointed out that the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which now includes Atiku, Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, is positioning itself as a major force against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Alancha admitted that while the political atmosphere appears quiet now, the APC must prepare for tougher battles once campaigns begin. He warned that unresolved economic challenges, particularly inflation and the rising cost of living, could be major issues used against the ruling party in 2027.

“If Peter Obi and Atiku can align and agree on a single ticket, it will deplete our support base because, at the table, they already have over 13 to 14 million votes,” he said, stressing that APC must begin preparations early to retain power.
